Investigator-Sponsored Research Grant Program

Gilead provides ISR grants primarily in our therapeutic areas of expertise and based on the scientific merit of the proposal. The research must be intended to contribute knowledge to the medical community. The budget must be reasonable and appropriate for the proposed work. In considering applications for support, Gilead will also consider the expertise of the proposed principal investigator and any sub-investigators, including their experience in the relevant therapeutic area, demonstrated ability to successfully conduct clinical trials, and available resources.

Your proposal will be considered by one or more cross-functional committees that meet routinely to review ISR proposals. Gilead may make suggestions to improve the scientific merit of the proposal and enhance consistency with Gilead's support approval criteria described above, although as the study sponsor, the principal investigator will have full and final discretion and responsibility for all aspects of the study design, implementation, data analysis, and data dissemination, including compliance with all laws and regulations applicable to research sponsors. The terms under which Gilead will provide support must be contained in a written agreement. Gilead provides no guarantees that the research grant will provide support for your proposal.

Request For Proposal Programs

In addition to our ISR Grant Program, we have RFP programs, seeking research projects in specific population and topics. These programs represent Gilead’s commitment to address unmet patient needs in therapeutic areas such as Cell Therapy, HIV and Liver Diseases, and include innovating methods for screening, diagnosis and access and linkage to care; addressing gaps in care for specific populations; and understanding disease epidemiology.

If you are interested in applying for a RFP program, carefully follow the instructions outlined in the RFP description of the program. Do not submit the online ISR Proposal application form until you have been invited for a full application.

Research Program in Specific Populations/Topics

HIV Treatment RESONATE RFP Program
This program aims to support the development of additional scientific data to support clinical and community decisions and medical management of HIV.

HIV Prevention: NOVA 2024 RFP Program
NOVA was relaunched in 2024 to study the real-world use of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in priority populations and implementation strategies to improve PrEP awareness, uptake and ongoing access/linkage/retention to HIV prevention services.

Hepatitis D: SPEARHEAD 2024 RFP Program
SPEARHEAD was relaunched in 2024 and is open to global submissions. It aims to enhance understanding and address challenges related to HDV screening and linkage to care. 

Hepatitis D: DETER 2024 RFP Program
There remains a need for robust real-world data to inform and guide clinical practice for the treatment of HDV. The aim of this program is to generate real-world treatment data to supplement findings from clinical trials.

Invasive Fungal Infections: CARING RFP Program
This program seeks to support research in China to better understand the safety, efficacy, resistance, treatment strategies, epidemiology and risk evaluation of invasive fungal infections.

Hepatitis B: SPOT RFP Program
SPOT supports research studying the treatment of HBV in special populations, such as patients with decompensated cirrhosis, patients 65 years of age or older, patients with underlying bone or renal comorbidities, and HBV reactivation in patients receiving immunosuppressants for conditions excluding cancer. 

Hepatitis B: LINK-DBU RFP Program
LINK supports research aimed at understanding the reasons for lack of treatment among HBV patients who are diagnosed, qualify for treatment, and yet remain untreated. Funding also supports research to identify ways to improve linkage of these patients to care. 

Hepatitis/HIV: GATHER RFP Program
Risk factors and populations of interest overlap across hepatitis B, C, and D as well as with HIV treatment and prevention. This program supports research on healthcare providers' knowledge regarding coinfections, cost effective opt-out testing strategies for blood-borne viral infections, and testing and linkage to care in sexual health service settings. 

Hepatitis: LISTEN RFP Program
This program supports research that evaluates screening, linkage to care, and treatment in women compared to men in areas where disparities in care have not been previously evaluated. This program will also focus on evaluating risk factors specifically associated with disease progression in women with viral hepatitis.

Cell Therapy: Kite External Research
We are refreshing our cell therapy research areas of interest and will not be accepting new proposals and research ideas until approximately July 2024.
