Pride Alliance's Mission

Pride Alliance provides a welcoming community for employees who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and/or queer, as well as our allies. The mission of Pride Alliance is to:

  • Promote an inclusive and productive work environment
  • Build a sense of community
  • Create a work culture where diversity is celebrated, and people are empowered to contribute innovative ideas to support Gilead’s objectives
For me, being my authentic self at work is a form of mental health that has enabled my success. I arrived at Gilead in 2012 and was excited to join Pride Alliance at its inception. Having an employee resource group that represents LGBTQIA+ employees gives us a seat at the table to have conversations about workplace equality and equity. Not that long ago, it was brave to declare your presence as a member of the queer community because there was a good chance it could impact your career. Now, I see 500 Gilead employees walking in the San Francisco Pride Parade with our CEO and other company leaders. I love the communities the employee resource groups have created. I appreciate the work Pride Alliance has done to create this supportive environment.

Pride Alliance Impact

Pronouns for Inclusion

Pronouns affirm gender identities while fostering an environment of respect, safety and inclusion, especially for our transgender and non-binary colleagues. Pride Alliance successfully launched an initiative to embed personal pronouns into all internal systems including the intranet, online meeting and email signatures, as well as business cards and badges. Pride Alliance continues to collaborate with other teams to expand this program beyond the U.S. to all Gilead sites worldwide.

Enhancing Benefits

Working with the benefits team, Pride Alliance helped define our LGBTQ+ health-related needs, partnering with Included Health to create a LGBTQ+ navigation and care coordination services benefit for employees. The employee resource group also helped produce an easy-to-use guide for transgender and gender non-conforming professionals at any stage of the gender-affirming journey, which also provides information for managers and colleagues to provide support.

Events & Community

Pride Alliance regularly fields a team of riders in the annual AIDS/LifeCycle, a seven-day bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Gilead riders and contributors raise tens of thousands of dollars to help reduce the incidence of HIV and improve the quality of life for people living with HIV/AIDS. Gilead always has a strong presence at the San Francisco Pride Parade. They also attend several other Pride parades all over the world in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community. In addition, many flag-raising ceremonies take place across Gilead on the first day of June to celebrate Pride Month, including raising the Pride and Transgender flags at Gilead’s headquarters in Foster City.
